Tigers greeted by fans in Memphis after tough loss

(WMC-TV) - The Memphis Tigers returned home Saturday after a heartbreaking second round loss in the NCAA tournament.

The Tigers lost 61-54 to the Saint Louis Billikens.  After the loss, many Tigers players took the blame.

"I feel bad letting the team down like that," said Will Barton.  "Something that's going to be on my mind forever."

"They didn't just beat us, we beat ourselves," said Joe Jackson.

After what the Tigers described as a quiet flight, the team touched down at Wilson Air Saturday morning to a not so quiet crowd.

The team was greeted with cheers, and while they said they were still struggling with the loss, they said they were grateful for the fan support.

"That's all I've been thinking about the whole plane ride was I won't get to enjoy this feeling anymore," said Wesley Witherspoon.  "Coming home, see the fans here waiting on us, it was just an amazing feeling."

Fans said they cannot wait to be back in the stands next season.
