(WMC-TV) – One of this country's richest men is in the market for a basketball team and he wants to buy the Memphis Grizzlies, but is the team still for sale?

The Commercial Appeal reports Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley downplayed a recent offer for the team.

The Los Angeles Times reports a sale of the Grizzlies would dramatically affect the purchase of the Dodgers.

And at least one local diehard is paying close attention to every word.

Given a choice between Tigers and Grizzlies, Stuart McGehee says he needs no time to deliberate.

"One of the two or three guys in the country who prefer the NBA to the college game," he said.

March Madness means something else to McGehee.

"I certainly hope the Grizz get a good push toward the end of the season so we wind up with a good spot in the Western Conference playoffs," he said.

With one eye on the box scores, McGehee keeps the other on the headlines, especially those that include the team name and the phrase "for sale."

"I think the whole issue of whether or not they'll be here or if they're moving is extraordinarily premature at this juncture," he said.

Whenever the discussion becomes timely, McGehee and other Grizz faithful can only offer opinions on a matter outside their control.

"All of us who are diehard and loyal Grizzlies fans, we love 'em," he said. "We'd hate to see 'em go… I would be devastated if this team were to move out of this market, But that's certainly so far out of my control it's a joke."

NBA approval and the terms of the FedEx Forum would be factors in any sale, as would a number of other things worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
