MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A defense attorney for a man charged with being a contract killer for a violent drug organization with ties to a Mexican cartel says her client should be acquitted because gang members who served as government witnesses have provided unreliable testimony against him.

Anne Tipton gave closing arguments Tuesday in the trial of Clinton Lewis and his cousin Martin Lewis. The men are accused of being members of a Memphis-based drug ring led by Craig Petties that imported drugs from Mexico and sold them in at least six states.

Several former gang members testified that the Lewises were gang enforcers. The Lewises are each charged with committing murders on orders from Petties, who has pleaded guilty to racketeering, money laundering and ordering four murders for hire.
