One killed, others injured in three-vehicle crash

(WMC-TV) - One person was killed and several were injured in a three-vehicle crash at Thomas and Floyd Thursday.

The people who survived the crash remained at the MED Thursday night.

"It sounded like somebody threw a bomb," said witness Tony Bone.  "Next thing I know, we heard a lot of screaming."

Police said all three vehicles were headed northbound when the accident happened.

"It's terrible looking, I mean it," said Bone.

Police blocked a portion of Thomas, but rerouted drivers could not help but look.

Investigators said the male driver of the motorcycle involved in the crash died.  The woman riding with him was transported to the MED.

Relatives of the man driving a Camaro involved in the crash said he was a Vietnam veteran.  They said he did not appear to be badly hurt.

The people in the van involved in the crash were taken to the MED, along with the driver of the Camaro.

It is not clear exactly how the accident happened.

Witnesses said one of the cars swerved into a lane, forcing the other driver over and into the motorcycle.  Other witnesses, who asked to remain anonymous, said they narrowly missed being in the wreck.

"It hurts me because that could have been somebody in my family," said witness Jerrika Joyce.  "It could have been anybody."

Boyce and other drivers said speed is a problem on this section of Thomas.

"We go down this highway to get home coming from Memphis every day," said Boyce.  "It's a dangerous road."

Police said the passenger on the motorcycle is in critical condition.  The people taken to the MED from the Camaro and van are in non-critical condition.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
