(WMC-TV) – The search for a missing Georgia baby ended in Marshall County, MS, Friday after a nationwide Amber Alert was issued.

The baby is safe and sound at the Marshall County Sheriff's Department and will head back to Georgia following the arrest of his mother and her boyfriend.

Eight-month-old Matthew is now in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

An Amber Alert was issued out of Georgia after Matthew's grandparents reported that he had been kidnapped by his mother, who does not have custody, and her boyfriend, who was also wanted for molesting another child.

The pair's SUV was pulled over along Highway 78 after a woman recognized it based on information she saw on an electronic sign in Birmingham, AL.

The baby's 19-year-old mother, Taylor Makill, and her 47-year-old boyfriend, Johnny Johnson, will be extradited to Georgia.

It is unclear at this point about exactly where they were heading with the baby.

Investigators say this is a prime example of how well the Amber Alert system can work.
