(WMC-TV) - After months of public meetings, the closure of three Shelby County Schools will come to a vote Tuesday night.

The district says it will save $20 million, but some parents say their children's' education will suffer.

Lakeview, Georgia Avenue and Graceland Elementary Schools are all on the chopping block.

School administrators say enrollment is so low they can't keep paying for the huge buildings.

But parents say the schools are not all performing at the same level.

The Shelby County Board of Education will vote Tuesday whether or not to close Lakeview, Georgia Avenue, and Graceland Elementary Schools.

"I think they're performing really well here," said Johnny Jeffries, a concerned parent. "So it would be good if they didn't close it."

Lakeview parents are upset because their children will transfer to Manor Lake which is lower performing.

Georgia Avenue students will go to LaRose Elementary, which is performing better.

And Graceland students will transfer to schools with equal status: Raineshaven and Robert E. Church Elementary Schools.

School administrators say they'll do their best to ensure the combined schools maintain current standards.

No matter how the three schools are performing, administrators say they have the sharpest declines in enrollment.

Lakeview Elementary has dropped from 187 to 110. Georgia Avenue Elementary fell from 605 to 325 and the school needs $8.1 million in repair. Graceland Elementary's enrollment fell from 626 to 372 and the school needs $9.6 million in repair.

The administration says all teachers and staff will be reassigned according to their union agreements or board policy.

The commissioners will consider selling, leasing or demolishing the properties.
