Convicted child molester: 'God made me do it'

Gabriel Soza Gabriel Soza
MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A Mesa man sentenced for having sex with an underage girl told police "the Spirit of God" had instructed him to do it, a probable cause statement said.

On Monday, Gabriel Soza, 36, received the maximum sentence of 27 years in prison and two consecutive lifetime terms of probation.

Soza pleaded guilty on May 3 to two counts of sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of attempted sexual conduct with a minor.

The girl had suggested in her diary that she was being inappropriately touched, police said. A family member discovered the journal and called police.

Police contacted the girl at school and she confirmed the alleged sexual misconduct during a two-year period, according to court documents.

Soza had instructed the girl not to tell anyone because he would get in trouble, the probable cause statement said.
