Thieves target Tipton County bus during trip to St. Louis

(WMC-TV) - A group of Tipton County students had their things stolen off a school bus during a field trip to St. Louis.

"Just very disappointing that this group of students and their chaperones have to face something like this on a school trip," said Tipton County Schools Superintendent Dr. Buddy Bibb.

Seventeen middle school students from Tipton Integrated Arts Academy went to St. Louis, Missouri for an overnight educational field trip during their spring break.

While those students toured a downtown museum, strangers boarded their bus and stole a group of purses that belonged to their chaperones.

St. Louis TV station KMOV rolled video of police on the scene because it is the second tour bus to be targeted there within the past two weeks.

Bibb said none of the students were hurt, nor did they lose any valuables.  He said he remains concerned.

"In days like today, with identity theft and those kind of things taking place, we hope that there's no long term repercussions of something like this," said Bibb.

Police in St. Louis are investigating the case.  The field trip is over and the students have returned home to enjoy the rest of their spring break.
