Investigation continues into JSU student slaying

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Jackson police have arrested a cousin of Jackson State University student Nolan Ryan Henderson, who was shot to death on Sunday outside an apartment building.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that police charged 25-year-old Jarrod Emerson with murder.

Police said Henderson reportedly was in a fight with several Jackson State football players. Emerson told investigators that Henderson called and asked him to come over because he'd been assaulted. They went back and confronted the people.

Police say Emerson allegedly pulled his gun and fired several shots. They say Henderson was shot as the crowd scattered, and ballistics tests found that the bullet from his body matched Emerson's gun.
