Police looking for golf course burglar in Olive Branch

(WMC-TV) - Olive Branch police are trying to track down the burglar who stole golf clubs and made his getaway driving across a golf course.

"Burglaries typically occur earlier in the morning or late at night, but not at 6 AM when it's day light out," said Major Tim Presley.

Just as an employee from Olive Branch Country Club was getting to work, one crook was finishing up his dirty job; stealing from the pro shop.

"It would be over $10,000 in golf equipment," Presley estimated.

Police said the suspect threatened the employee to get out of his way. Once the coast was clear, the course's greens, usually for long drives, became the driveway for an unusual escape.

"[He] drove right over the golf course towards Highway 302, cutting over the golf course and exited out the hole through a chain link fence that evidently, he had cut to gain entry," Presley told Action News 5.

Broken links cut from the fence were found lying next to tire tracks from the SUV's getaway. The suspect vehicle is described as a blue Ford Edge.

The employee told police it looked brand new, but Presley said maybe not anymore.

"The vehicle may have damage under the front bumper area or maybe under the front suspension," said Presley.

Grounds at the Olive Branch Country Club were victim to the burglary too.

Marks from tire tracks could be seen near the sand pit and grass on at least one of the holes visible from the road.

Since the incident happened early in the morning, police think someone saw something that could help.

"We may able to be able to get some tips or clues to help us solve this crime," Presley said.

The suspect vehicle is described as a new blue Ford Edge with alloy wheels that may have some damage on the front.
