(WMC-TV) – One woman is dead and a man is facing charges as sheriff's deputies continue to investigate a murder at the Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Tunica.

"This is an unusual occurrence," said Tunica County Sheriff K.C. Hamp. "Probably this is our first homicide for the year. Tunica County, we probably average one homicide a year."

Brandi Nicole Floyd and her boyfriend Nathaniel Yates, III, made the trip to Tunica from Collierville.

They were staying in room 139 when neighboring guests overheard the couple arguing and called hotel security.

The security staff called Tunica County Sheriff's Deputies who found Floyd dead on the hotel room floor, stabbed multiple times.

"Things may have been broken in the room, things I can't discuss in detail about the crime scene," said Hamp. "We recovered sharp objects that have been sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab for testing to determine if it was the weapon of choice."

Hamp said Yates tried to escape by jumping out the window, but deputies were there waiting for him.

"In order to get the suspect to comply, he was tazed," the sheriff said.

As soon as he's released from the hospital, Yates will be charged with murder.

Meanwhile, it was business as usual inside Hollywood where casino officials say most people were unaware of the situation.

"At no time were our employees or our customers in any danger," said Tony Carlucci, Hollywood Hotel and Casino general manager. That's what we will always be concerned about."

Deputies are investigating what started the original argument that turned an otherwise peaceful night into a deadly dawn.

Floyd and Yates shared a home in Collierville.  They had a one-year-old daughter and friends said they were expecting a son in a few months.

Neighbor Susan Quasdorf said Floyd worked at La Hacienda in Collierville and for her at her restaurant in Rossville.

"Very sweet girl, everyone enjoyed her," said Quasdorf.  "She was very friendly with the customers."

Efrain Guzman, who owns La Hacienda, said Floyd did not show up for work Wednesday.  Friends said they saw Yates in front of the couple's home Wednesday and everything seemed fine.

Friends and neighbors said they knew the couple was having problems.  They said Floyd appeared afraid and would cry frequently.  They suggested she leave Yates.  Another neighbor said Floyd came to her door when the couple first moved in three years ago and said Yates was going to kill her.

Collierville officials said police were called to the couple's home recently on a domestic complaint.  Yates has also been arrested on drug charges.
