(WMC-TV) – A school bus loaded with more than a dozen children was involved in a wreck on I-240 and Lamar Thursday morning.

While the crash created a traffic nightmare on I-240, it took worried parents no time to arrive at the scene to check on the well-being of their children.

"I was kind of spooked on my way coming here," said Angela Waters.

Waters, whose 11-year-old son was on the bus, rushed to the scene moments after hearing about the crash.

The wreck happened around 10:30 Thursday morning on I-240 at Lamar Ave. and brought traffic to a halt.

A car slammed into the back of the bus, forcing it off the highway and into the grassy median, police said.

Seventeen children and four adults were on the bus. They all had to be transported to the hospital as a safety precaution.

"I'm not too worried about it, long as the kids and my child are fine," said Waters.

The students attend Knight Road Elementary and had just left the school when the accident occurred.

"They were heading to the Civil Rights Museum on a field trip," said Waters.

No one on the bus was seriously injured, but there's no word on the condition of the driver who crashed into the back of the bus.
