Two teens arrested after large fight over Facebook post

(WMC-TV) - Two teenage girls were arrested Wednesday and more could be charged following a fight over a Facebook post.

Investigators said students from Southwind High School and Whitehaven High School fought in the 4700 block of Ridge Walk Lane in southeast Shelby County Wednesday after school.

"At one point, there were 25 to 30 juveniles involved in several fights at that particular location," said Chip Washington with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

The altercation reportedly originated from the Facebook comments of several girls from Southwind High School.  Girls from Whitehaven High School traveled across town searching for a particular female student, before the large fight involving girls and boys erupted.

As the fight escalated, investigators said gunshots were fired.  None of the teens were hit.

"We did have a 19-year-old female who suffered a puncture wound to the arm, not a gunshot wound," said Washington.  "Apparently, during the fight she rolled onto something that caused that wound."

Deputies initially detained seven teens who were still on the scene.  Two girls, ages 15 and 16, were charged.

One man who lives in the house next to where the fight broke out said teens use that neighborhood as a cut through, creating issues in the past.
