Collierville woman murdered at Tunica casino was pregnant

(WMC-TV) - Investigators are trying to determine how to charge the Collierville man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend in a Tunica casino hotel.

Nathaniel Yates, III is in police custody at a DeSoto County hospital.

Already the mother of one young child, 25-year-old Brandi Nicole Floyd was five to six months pregnant with her second when she was stabbed to death at inside room 139 at Tunica's Hollywood Hotel and Casino early Thursday morning.

Yates, her boyfriend, remains hospitalized at Baptist DeSoto Hospital.  When released from doctor's care, Sheriff K.C. Hamp said Yates will be charged with murder.

Hamp said Yates will be charged with one count for Floyd and perhaps another for her unborn child.  Investigators plan to confer with the district attorney before deciding on the appropriate number of murder charges.

Floyd and Yates were visiting Tunica from their home in Collierville, where city officials confirmed police have prior history with Yates regarding domestic violence and drug charges.

Yates' criminal history in Shelby County includes a 2003 indictment for possession with the intent to sell drugs, to which he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years probation.

No one answered the door Friday at the Collierville address associated with his arrests.  Neighbors also decline to be interviewed.

Tunica County Sheriff Deputy Randy Stewart said he did not want to put a timetable on when investigators would file charges.
