(WMC-TV) – The common sound of home improvement was interrupted by the uncommon Monday afternoon in Germantown.

"All of a sudden we hear, like, two nice-sized explosions," said Darryl Lee, who was working nearby at the time. "Like two gunshots, that's what it sounded like."

Germantown police worked two different spots on Johnson Road where the remnants of homemade Drano bombs littered the sidewalk and street.

Among the residue from those explosions, pieces of what looks like tin foil that's been burned and charred could be seen.

Countless YouTube tutorials teach construction of the Drano bomb. They're made with a plastic bottle, foil and Drano.

While they're described as a favorite teenage prank, the bombs can be dangerous upon detonation.

"There's never anything going on around here," said Barry Bledsoe, who was also working nearby at the time of the explosions. "It's usually pretty quiet."

Germantown police say no one was hurt, but they are searching for whoever set off the homemade bombs.

Investigators believe someone tossed the explosives out the window of a passing car.

"I just think probably it was like a prank or something," said Lee. "You know, kids or something. I don't think it was nothing major, but you never know."

Prank or otherwise, police say getting busted with any type of bomb can backfire fast.
