Tournament adds spice to schedule

Up to 20 celebrities will participate in the FedEx St. Jude Classic's Championship Pro-Am on Wednesday, June 6, at TPC Southwind. Stars from the worlds of sports and entertainment have been invited to play.

"This is St. Jude's 50th anniversary and as a thank you for our support, our partners at St. Jude came to us last fall and volunteered to use their considerable influence to beef up our pro-am," said FESJC general chairman Jack Sammons. "Of course, we said "yes"."

Celebrities already lined up include TV actors Rob Morrow, Alan Thicke, Dave Annable and Brian Baumgartner, who plays Kevin on the ABC hit: "The Office." Also scheduled to appear are Memphis Tigers football coach Justin Fuente and Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze, NBA legends Penny Hardaway and Rick Barry, along with sportscasters Greg Anthony, Tim Brando and Joe Theismann, Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould and country music artist Clay Walker.

"Adding celebrities on Wednesday is just one of many ways we are improving the tournament experience, "Sammons said. "We have spent considerable resources to make the tournament more attractive to a younger audience."

Officials have added a Saturday night concert featuring Super T and the Tyrone Smith Revue. This free concert will take the stage immediately after the last putt drops near the clubhouse. Also new this year: a Kids Zone near the 10th tee, the Michelob Ultra Party Tent at the 12th green and the return of the Sunday @ Southwind Family Festival on June 3 after a five-year hiatus.

Early player commitments include defending champion Harrison Frazar, two-time U.S. Open winner Retief Goosen, local favorite John Daly, Tennesseans Brandt Snedeker and Scott Stallings, plus Johnson Wagner, Fredrik Jacobsen and Robert Karlsson, FESJC runner-up for the past two years.

"Now that the Masters is completed, players will begin planning the summer portion of their schedules so we expect to see other big names added to our field," added Sammons. "And, in the next few weeks, we will be announcing several other promotions and neat ideas to spice up our event."

A purse of $5.6 million will be at stake during the 55th FedEx St. Jude Classic, June 4-10, at TPC Southwind. Tickets and other information are available at
