COPY-Memphis schools chief finalist in NC

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - As discussion continues about who should head the combining Memphis and Shelby County schools, the city schools chief has emerged as a candidate in North Carolina.

According to The Commercial Appeal ( ), Kriner Cash is 1 of 3 finalists to head the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The three will be publicly interviewed Wednesday and Thursday.

The other finalists are Ann Clark, the chief academic officer of the school system in Charlotte, and Heath Morrison, the superintendent of the Washoe County School District in Reno, Nev.

Cash did not respond to an interview request, but has said he would be interested in remaining in Memphis if he is selected to head the local combined school system.

Cash was hired in 2008 from the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
