(WMC-TV) – A Memphis homeowner is recovering after she chased two would-be burglars and crashing her car in the process.

Three men are being questioned at 201 Poplar because police believe they set off a chain reaction that crisscrossed Hickory Hill and included a car wreck that sent at least one person to the hospital.

The red Mustang has a rumpled rear fender, busted bumper, deflated tire and a deployed airbag. It was mangled after getting broadsided on Perkins.

"My niece, she called me and told me she had just been in a wreck," said Doris Gamble. "She got caught in the crossfire. She was just coming down the street getting ready to head to school."

But this wasn't a regular car wreck.

The red Mustang was hit by a black Nissan as its driver chased a man who had tried to break into a house two blocks away.

Police caught his two accomplices on the scene.

When the third got away, the woman who lives in the house jumped in her Nissan and tried to catch him.

Though he got away when she wrecked, police later caught him at an apartment complex just a few miles away.

"We was coming out of the house and we see like 15-20 cars just voom, voom, voom," said witness Chris Mull.

Mull said police originally handcuffed three men, but let two of them go free.

"It was kind of crazy," Mull said. "It just came out of nowhere."

Police say the men did not manage to break-in and no one was seriously hurt.

"Well, it could've been worse," said Gamble. "It could've been much worse. So I'm just thankful that it wasn't."

Police say they're still investigating this case and determining the appropriate charges to file.
