Elderly man accused of killing neighbor after argument

(WMC-TV) - A 74-year-old man is accused of killing his neighbor after an argument over tools.

Joe Valentine is charged with first degree murder.  The victim's family is calling for justice.

The victim, 59-year-old McKinley Holt, was gunned down in the driveway of his father's home on Deerland Road just after 5 p.m. Thursday.

"I tried to revive him, give him CPR, but it was just too late," said the victim's brother, Joe Holt.

"He just shot him down like he was nobody," said the victim's sister, Vera Holt.

Until Thursday, Valentine was considered a longtime family friend.  Family members said he and McKinley Holt were friends who worked in construction.

Police said the two may have been in a dispute over a pressure washer.

Valentine lives in a house just around the corner from the crime scene.  Police said he called 911 immediately after the shooting and told a dispatcher he had just killed someone.

McKinley Holt was the father of 10 children.

Valentine was born on Valentine's Day in 1938.
