(WMC-TV) – He's being held on $10 million bond after being accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend inside a Tunica casino, but this isn't the first time Nathaniel Yates has been in trouble with police.

He's also had a few run-ins with Collierville police on drug and domestic violence charges.

"It is totally out of character for him to be this way," said Yates' neighbor Anthony Fuzz. "He's a really nice person. So we really don't know what happened."

Yates is charged with two counts of murder in the stabbing of his pregnant girlfriend Brandi Floyd and the death of the five-month-old fetus.

The couple also has a one year old daughter.

Yates is also charged with kidnapping.

"During the course of the investigation we uncovered that the victim tried to exit the hotel room at some point in time and was unable to do so," said Cedric Davis, of the Tunica County Sheriff's Office. "The suspect would not allow her to leave."

Tunica County investigators believe the confrontation in the room may have been going on for a while because they found bruises on Floyd's body.

She was stabbed numerous times possibly with a pocket knife found at the scene.

Investigators say Yates jumped through a glass window on the first floor when deputies showed up outside the room.

He landed right in front of shocked deputies who tased him.

"It was kind of shocking for officers… I'm sure for those officers on the scene it was a scary moment for them," Davis said.

Yates' injuries from cuts were so severe he spent more than a week in the hospital.

Tunica County investigators are waiting for the results of an autopsy to give them more information in the case.

They are also waiting on toxicology reports to determine if Yates was on drugs.
