LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Former President Bill Clinton says he doesn't think he would have been president if he hadn't participated in a school music program, and says similar arts programs give students the discipline and order they need in today's world.

Clinton praised arts funding as he delivered the keynote address Tuesday at the 2012 Arkansas Arts Summit at his presidential library in downtown Little Rock. The summit is a 2-day conference presented by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the Kennedy Center.

Clinton said being in an arts program taught him to how to listen better, a skill he said helped him as president.

Organizers say the conference will provide practical training for board members and arts administrators.
