Two elderly men found dead in Marion home

(WMC-TV) – Investigators don't know how the men died, but say they were dead likely in the duplex they shared for almost a week.

"It's kind of nerve wracking because I don't know what happened," said the men's neighbor Karen White.

The men's landlord discovered the bodies of 67-year-old John Shaffer and his friend James Hill, a career military man, inside the duplex Monday night. They lived together and Shaffer looked after Hill who was much older.

Neighbors and the landlord became suspicious after noticing their rent was late, the mailbox was piling up with mail and the one man's son left a note on the door that read "I'm trying to reach you."

Their landlord eventually went inside the duplex with his grandson, Zack Watlington.

"We opened it up and found him," he said. "There's a hall that way and we found one gentleman in the hall."

Shaffer was discovered dead in the bathroom and Hill was found dead in the hall.

People who saw the bodies say there were no obvious injuries.

Marion police do not know if foul play is involved in two men's deaths.

The medical examiner's office in Little Rock will determine how they died.
