MPD officer says sexually explicit transmission was a fake

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis police officer who resigned after he was heard allegedly having sex over the police radio said the whole incident was a fake.

On March 12 just before 9 p.m., radio transmissions landed Memphis police officer Dion Anthony in hot water.

The city has not released the audio, but Action News 5 listened to a copy of the 58-second police radio transmission Thursday.

The tape is sexually explicit.

After dispatch twice advised Anthony his mic was on, the explicit transmission hit the airwaves.

In an interview with internal affairs, Anthony said he had gone to Cochese off of Getwell while in uniform and on duty.  He met up with a woman named Janice, whose last name Anthony could not provide and whose address he did not remember.

Anthony said he and the woman did not have sex, only a conversation in which they pretended to.

"I wanted her to make a tape with me," said Anthony.  "I broadcasted that on my own 'cause I'm sick and tired of what's going on.  I'm sick and tired of being talked down to.  I'm sick and tired of being taken advantage of and all this racism going on here."

When asked to clarify, Anthony replied, "This whole department is ... racist.  It's not about being an officer, it's about who you know, who you sleeping with, and what color skin you are."

Investigators later asked, "And you're saying that you broadcasted sexually explicit content over your MPD radio?"

Anthony replied, "Yes."

Investigators concluded, "Officer Anthony's broadcast does not address any issue he has with the Memphis Police Department.  It is clearly a sexual encounter with a female that has nothing to do with racism or him being treated unfairly."

The administrative charges against him were sustained.

Before he was disciplined, Anthony resigned from the force on March 22.

Intentionally transmitting lewd and obscene material is a federal offense.  Action News 5 contacted the FCC to see if it is aware of the situation.  They had not responded by late Thursday afternoon.
