(WMC-TV) – A family of six escaped their burning home Friday morning in the 9600 block of Woodland Hills Drive in Cordova.

The fire started around 12:30 Friday morning.

A man, his wife and their four children escaped the home without any injuries.

"Appears to have started in the garage," said Battalion Chief Jim Meyers

The garage was gutted and their vehicle was charred.

Shelby County firefighters are thankful no one was hurt.

According to Meyers, "you always worry about this time of night if people are going to be inside the house. Our first indication when we got there was that someone was inside, but after doing a primary search we found out for sure that everybody was outside. That gives us a lot of relief."

Investigators believe the fire started in the garage, but that hasn't been determined.
