#PrayforTrey: Collierville teen battling cancer spends day at UT

(WMC-TV) - A Collierville High School football player battling Stage IV pancreatic cancer spent the weekend at the University of Tennessee.

Trey Erwin, 15, has been the center of a social media campaign with the Twitter hashtag #PrayforTrey since he was diagnosed a little more than a month ago.

When the Young Alumni Association at the University of Tennessee heard it was Erwin's dream to be a Tennessee Volunteer, they decided to make it happen.

Saturday, Erwin met head football coach Derek Dooley, threw a few passes with quarterback Tyler Bray, and got hugs from cheerleaders.

Erwin's mother said when he woke up this morning, he did not know if he could make it through the big day ahead.

"This morning I put it out," said Lisa Erwin.  "I said he doesn't have the strength to get out of bed this morning, please pray for Trey to get out because we know we have a full day ahead.  And as it turns out, he has strength, he has energy.  He's had a great day."

The Young Alumni Association named Trey Erwin an honorary University of Tennessee alumni and recognized him at a luncheon.  He said he hopes to be able to give that title up and attend the university himself.
