Colleague speaks out about the death of Elaine Walsh

(WMC-TV) – People close to Elaine Walsh, the woman who police believe was murdered by her son, are mourning the loss of their friend and colleague.

"My heart sunk," said Curt Hart, Elaine's coworker. "I was devastated. I wasn't believing it at first."

Police were called to the home of the John and Elaine Walsh just before 7 a.m. Saturday morning. When they arrived, they found Elaine with multiple injuries to her head.

Her son, William Patrick Walsh, 22, is charged in her murder.

Elaine worked at the University of Memphis for eight years. She served as an administrative associate and assistant to the dean. She also previously worked at WMC-TV.

"She made it a point to cross the T's, dot the I's, and so forth. She was the main person to our dean at the college. Some here called her the CIO because of what she did," said Hart.

Meanwhile, students, faculty, and staff on the campus are still coming to terms with the loss of one of their own.

"Several have already said it's going to take 10 to 20 people to do her job. She was that good," explained Hart. "She will be sorely missed. A very wonderful individual."
