(WMC-TV) – Friday the 13th was a lucky day for a West Memphis woman who scored $250,000 in the Mega Millions Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.
She did not realize she held the winning ticket until this weekend. The winner asked that WMC-TV not show her face, for fear of becoming a target.
Lillian Williams bought her lottery ticket at the Starmart on South Service Road for the Friday the 13th drawing.
"It was laying on my table the whole time. I didn't know," said Williams.
She got a call from her fiance' over the weekend, who noticed she had five winning numbers.
Williams opted for the lump sum, which reduces her take-home amount to $170,000. She said she views the money as a nest egg for retirement. In fact, she was headed to work when WMC-TV caught up with her.
Williams said before she starts investing in her retirement plan, she will pay her tithes, but she does plan to live it up just a little bit.
"I'm going to Jamaica and I'm going to just relax and just breathe. And then it'll hit me that I can get up in the morning and I don't have to worry about paying my bills," explained Williams.
From this day forward, Williams said 13 is her lucky number, "Don't tell me that Friday the 13th is unlucky. It was a lucky day for me."
