Suspect identified in attempted drowning of teen

(WMC-TV) - Marshall County deputies have identified the man they said tied up and tried to drown a Mississippi teenager before burning down the teen's father's home.

Officials at the MED said the victim, 18-year-old Charles Hardeman, is now in serious condition.

Authorities consider Hardeman's accused attacker, 30-year-old Gregory Jenkins, armed and dangerous.

Jenkins is charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping.  Both are felonies.

Marshall County deputies said Hardeman was thrown into a pond next to his father's home with a 75-pound piece of concrete attached to a belt tied around his legs.

Hardeman then saw his father's house go up in flames while he tried to escaped, but his truck crashed into a tree about a mile down the road.

Hardeman has been in the hospital recovering ever since April 11.  For some time, he was unable to speak.

If you have seen Jenkins or know where he is, call North Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-2169.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Department is planning a news conference with more information soon.
