If you want to know what's wrong with our politics here in the United States, you need look no further than guns-in-parking lots debate here in Tennessee.
Gun lobbyists in the state were supporting a proposal that would allow employees to bring guns into the parking lots of their workplaces and would have prohibited their employers from having a say in the matter.
Debra Maggart is the chairman of the Tennessee House Republican caucus and this week she voted to scuttle the bill in committee, triggering a hateful backlash from gun lobbyists.
Specifically, John Harris, the executive director of the Tennessee Firearms Association, issued an email in which he declared that, "Rep. Debra Maggart's political career needs to end much as the Romans crucified criminals -- not just to end her tenure but as a glaring example to other Republicans."
He then went to say that a used crucifix should be displayed at the entrance to the General Assembly as a warning. Never mind that Rep. Maggart has been a strong support of gun rights throughout her legislative career. Mr. Harris should consider his job as a lobbyist. Right now, he's doing his cause more harm than good.
