One suspect arrested in attempted robbery of Dollar General

(WMC-TV) – Police arrested at least one person in connection with an attempted robbery that lead to shots being fired inside a Memphis store Friday morning.

Officers say no one was hit when one of the two masked thieves fired his weapon inside the Dollar General at 4712 S. Third.

The man was armed with a small caliber revolver, according to reports. Both men were wearing masks, but one was taken into custody as WMC-TV cameras rolled.

One man who spends a lot of time in the area said he was surprised to hear the news.

"Yeah, it do because I ain't been seeing nothing like that around here. I wondering what was going on. I know something had happened. I didn't know if somebody got killed or what. You know how things is," said T.L. Johnson, southwest Memphis.

Investigators are currently searching for the second person involved in the attempted robbery. Police say the crooks left empty-handed.

Police have yet to release the identity of the man arrested, the charges against him, or information about the second suspect.
