(WMC-TV) – A 4-year-old girl who was shot in the head Thursday is on life support.
Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan says the parents of Juliette Pachacano Gutierrez reported the child had fallen off of a bed and hit her head on a door facing.
She was airlifted to Lebonheur Children's Medical Center where medical personnel determined the child had actually been shot in the head with a small caliber handgun. That is when the medical staff called Sheriff Pollan.
Deputies served a search warrant at the family's home and found a weapon.
The girl's parents, Marie Pachecano and Carlos Sanchez, were arrested at the hospital. They are both charged with contributing to the delinquency and negligence of a minor, as well as tampering with physical evidence of a crime scene.
The sheriff says more charges are pending. He also says the girl will be taken off of life support soon.
