Southaven Mayor in court Wednesday - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

Southaven Mayor in court Wednesday

(WMC-TV) - Southaven Mayor Greg Davis will head to court Wednesday to answer for traffic violations involving a school bus.

Davis will reportedly plead not guilty to the misdemeanor charges.  He said he was just protecting a group of young children getting off the school bus.

However, the bus driver in this case filed a complaint against Mayor Davis after he turned on his blue light in the car he was driving.

According to investigators, Davis was in his private vehicle when he chased down a car that passed the school bus while a student was crossing the road.

Davis later turned himself in to the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office.  Wednesday, he will answer for the misdemeanor charges of overtaking a school bus and having illegal blue lights on his private car.

Davis said he has had the lights on his car for 15 years and the situation involving the school bus has been blown out of proportion.

This case is not connected to Davis' alleged misuse of city funds.
