(WMC-TV) - The man accused of a streak of violent sexual attacks in Cordova was arraigned in court at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Anthony Alliano was arrested at a home on Madison Woods Lane in Bartlett Tuesday night. He is officially charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and aggravated rape.
"I'm shocked. Scared. I didn't think anything like this would be going on in this neighborhood," said Bill Weddendorf, who lives on the same street.
Last week, Memphis police asked the public for help to identify the man captured in surveillance photos. The suspect was using a credit card that had been stolen during a 2010 break-in and rape in Cordova.
A news release said that DNA evidence connects the same suspect to at least six sexual assaults. The string of sexual assaults began in 2003.
"Investigators say recent news reports generated tips that led them to Anthony Alliano. A witness where the stolen credit card was used picked him out of a photo line-up.
Alliano has a history of arrests. In 2003, he earned an 11 month, 29 day sentence for an assault. In 2004, he was charged with statutory rape after being caught with a 16-year-old in a hotel room. That case was dropped and not prosecuted.
In 2011, he was fined $100 for driving without a license.
At this time, he is only charged in the 2010 rape case. Police say that investigators are still sorting through a sizable case file and that is subject to change.
His bond is set at $250,000.
Alliano is scheduled to make another court appearance on May 10.
