Neighbors mourn girl shot by her toddler brother

(WMC-TV) – Neighbors are heartbroken over the shooting that happened on LaPaloma Circle Tuesday, leaving a 16-month-old girl dead.

Randy Lark cannot believe what happened to the sweet girl, who lived nearby.

"Oh, it tears me up. It really, really hurts," he said. "I'm so shocked and hurt by what's happened to this child."

Calvuna Reese was shot to death. Neighbors say that Reese's father told them her 2-year-old brother pulled the trigger.

"He said the little boy shot the little girl. I didn't ask him any details because I knew he was hurt," said Lark.

Police have yet to verify the story. The case remains open as investigators sort through differing explanations behind the shooting.

"Oh, she was active, very sweet. She got around. She'd go outside and play. She'd come to me," said Lark.

At this point, nobody has been charged in connection with the shooting. However, uniformed officers working this case did make one arrest.

While responding to the initial call, police made a traffic stop at Eastmoreland and South Bellevue. They pulled over a Chrysler P.T. Cruiser that was listed in the broadcast for the shooting of a one-year-old female.

Driver Darius Williams was arrested and is accused of having marijuana in his pocket. He has not been charged with any other crime.

Neighbors say the 2-year-old boy is just as sweet and loving as his little sister.  They say they have not seen the family since night of the shooting.
