(WMC-TV) - A Mid-South sheriff broke his silence Wednesday to reveal a warrant issued in the case of a missing family.
The sheriff admitted he has no idea where Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters are. But he believes a family friend knows.
Gary Bain, the husband of Jo Ann, was close to tears when we talked with him before a news conference about his missing wife and three children.
"I don't think I can hold it together long enough to talk to anybody," said Bain.
"We do have a person of interest we are looking to talk to," said Hardeman County Sheriff, John Doolin.
Adam Christopher Mayes from Union County Mississippi is the man described by the Hardeman County sheriff as a friend of the Bain family. Something Gary Bain was able to confirm to Action News 5.
The Sheriff says Mayes disappeared sometime after Sunday after investigators talked with him.
"We believe he knows the whereabouts or knows the circumstances behind them being missing," said Sheriff Mayes.
There is a warrant out for Mayes' arrest because the sheriff said he lied when he was interviewed.
The family disappeared Friday.
Their SUV was discovered in a field near their home earlier this week, but the Sheriff said there were no tracks leading away from the SUV.
The family was planning to move to Arizona last weekend because one of the children has asthma.
At this point, investigators do not believe foul play is involved in the disappearance, though missing person posters have still been posted in three states: Tennessee, Mississippi and Arizona.
The Hardeman County Sheriff's department has entered the children's information into the center for Missing and Exploited Children.
