Son of popular restaurant owner arrested after standoff

(WMC-TV) – The son of a prominent Mid-South restaurant owner is under arrest after a standoff in Germantown.

Scott Day is the son of The Butcher Shop restaurant owner Dennis Day.

Scott worked for the family business, but last night, a domestic dispute with his girlfriend landed him in jail.

Dennis Day was already at work Friday morning when he heard police had surrounded his son's Germantown home.

Neighbors on Meadow Run Drive heard the desperate cries of a woman in distress just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

The woman told Germantown police she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Scott Day.

Police were led to believe that he was holed up inside his home. Neighbors were evacuated as police waited for Scott to surrender.

"Swat team wanted us out because they thought there was a possibility of firearms next door," said neighbor Art Benjamin.

It turned out that Day was not in his home.

"He was asleep in one of our bedrooms at our house. I live five blocks from here," said his father, Dennis.

That is where the 42-year-old was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

Day's father believes the story has been blown out of proportion.

"I've heard so many things out at the restaurant, people were saying this and that, it didn't even make any sense," he said.

It is not Scott Day's first time in jail. He has had a DUI, and has appeared in court twice for violating an order of protection. Dennis says his son's most recent arrest is a family matter and he hopes it will not reflect on the family business.

Scott posted a $2,500 bond and is due back in court on July 18.
