(WMC-TV) - Embattled Southaven Mayor Greg Davis is in Las Vegas on business this week.
Mayor Davis is in "Sin City" with two aldermen at a conference trying to bring business to Southaven at the International Council of shopping centers.
"One on one meetings with developers, we have a couple we are meeting with tonight about developing the Main Street Area," said Davis.
"Trying to touch base and bring business to the area," added Alderman Ronnie Hale.
Davis and Hale say they are staying at Mandalay Bay where the conference is being held. Davis says it costs 109 dollars a night. They left Friday and plan to return on Wednesday.
"I got permission from the board to come out here and work with some developers for a retail project we've got going on," said Davis.
This all comes after a state audit last year showed Davis used city funds to pay for personal expenses.
After that the board of aldermen tightened their control over expenses requiring better record keeping.
Davis and Hale will pay their expenses and get reimbursed. What is different is they will have to show receipts and reasons for the expenses.
"We know we've got some issues that we're dealing with as a city and the city still has to prosper," said Hale.
Hale assured Action News 5 that there shouldn't be any complaints from this trip.
Mayor Davis said he will be making an announcement next week involving new tenants for the Southern Market and possibly more. He also said there are meetings set up for tomorrow that may prove lucrative for the city.
