TPC presents plan to Unified Shelby County Schools system

(WMC-TV) - The Transition Planning Commission has pitched their ideas to the Unified Shelby County Schools system.

According to the Commercial Appeal, the TPC's recommendations include expanding Pre-K for as many as 4,000 4-year-olds, and doubling the number of students enrolled in Advanced Placement Courses.

The TPC also proposed making all teacher assignments by mutual consent, as well as developing a plan to compensate and retain high-performing teachers.

The TPC also wants to dismiss teachers who do not perform above level 2 on a proposed 5-point teacher rating scale after they have been given an opportunity to improve.

The unified school board will get the entire plan on June 25.  They can give input before the TPC votes on August 9.
