Local high schools make Newsweek's list of best in the U.S.

(WMC-TV) – Three local high schools found out they are three of the best schools in the country according to Newsweek Magazine.

Germantown High School, Collierville High School, and Houston High School all made the magazine's "The Best 1,000 Schools in the Country" list.

For Germantown High, it is the first time they have been named on the list.

"So making a list like really says to us that our priorities are in the right place, we need to keep doing what we are doing, we need to keep trying every day to improve," said Germantown High School Principal Dr. Ten Horrell.

Germantown, Collierville, and Houston schools are three of just 11 high schools in Tennessee to make the list.

For the students at Germantown High, making the list this year already has them looking ahead.

"It's always important whether it being at school on time or taking your test in class just in general it's really important to try your best all the time and that's what Germantown really shows us," said student Garner Lesley.

The school hopes to make the list again next year.
