Family copes with hit-and-run death

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis woman is dead after a hit and run late last night and police are trying to track down the driver responsible.

Classy Jones' family are mourning as they try to understand what led up to the crash that took her life.

50-year-old Classy Jones is described as a person who got along with everyone.

"She was an outgoing person, friendly to everyone in the neighborhood. That's the way she is," said her boyfriend, William Anderson.

The crash happened at 11:30 Wednesday night at South Parkway and Pennsylvania Street.

Investigators say Jones was standing in an eastbound lane when she was hit by a Ford Explorer.

"Her sight wasn't all that good and she was just walking. She told me she was going to walk up the street and come back," said Anderson. "I was waiting a long time and didn't hear from her, so they called and told me a car had hit her."

Jones was taken to Methodist University Hospital where she later died.

"She's a wonderful person. I miss her and hate it happened," said her boyfriend.
