Stolen car crashes into Memphis home

(WMC-TV) - A stolen car crashed in front of a house in the 2000 block of Finley Saturday afternoon, just narrowly missing the home.

That stolen black SUV appeared to have veered right into a yard, taking the mailbox along for the ride and then landing on the front porch of another house.

A nearby neighbor called police after she saw a black suburban truck going at a very high rate of speed drive right into the home. A man who lives at the residence was not home at the time.  The resident did say police informed him the truck appears to be stolen, and that a male driver took off from the truck on foot.  When police made the scene, the suspect was long gone.

Robert Brown, who has lived in the Whitehaven neighborhood some 40 years, says things have gotten pretty wild in the community lately.

"Things have happened around here in here in the last month, shootings and  things but this is a good quiet neighborhood and we've never had anything like this happen before," Brown stated.

A tow truck removed the SUV a few minutes after an Action News 5 crew arrived on the scene.  No one was injured in the crash and the homeowner says the damages are not extensive.

Memphis Police have yet to issue any information about the suspect who fled the scene.
