(WMC-TV) - Defending U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy committed Monday to play in the FedEx St. Jude Classic June 7th-10th.
The world's No. 2 ranked golfer made it known through Twitter, tweeting earlier Monday he's excited about coming to Memphis before defending his U.S. Open title in San Francisco.
The 23 year old from Northern Ireland has missed the cut his last two starts, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and THE PLAYERS Championship two weeks earlier.
McIlory last played at the TPC Southwind two years ago, finishing tied for 29th in the FESJC.
FedEx St. Jude Classic Tournament Director Phil Cannon said he learned of McIlory's commitment to play in Memphis first via Twitter, and said having McIlory in the field is a huge "get."
