(WMC-TV) – A former University of Memphis hurdler is sharpening his skills as he prepares to prove that he is Olympic material.

Richard Lowe will prove his skill in the USA Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, this month.

In the meantime, Lowe is practicing at the Billy J. Murphy Track and Field Complex in Memphis on a daily basis to get ready for the trials.

Lowe is a celebrated hurdler from the Mid South. As a senior at the U of M, he won the C-USA 400m Hurdles Championship and qualified for the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

In qualifying for the championship finals, he was ranked in the top 20 nationally and in the top 60 worldwide.

According to the University of Memphis, he is the only hurdler in the modern era from the school to become an All-American.

Lowe will compete in the USA Olympic Trials on June 22 and June 23.
