(WMC-TV) - A Memphis mother is behind bars and facing charges of reckless endangerment after she and her newborn tested positive for cocaine.

Lavare White gave birth to a baby girl at The MED on April 16. She appeared in court this week.

According to a police affidavit, White told a DCS worker that she used cocaine on April 14, two days before her child was born. She said that it was her first and only time to use.

White told the case worker the reason she used cocaine was because the father of her other children was getting out of prison. She claims he had stabbed her 32 times and she was stressed about his prison release.

White is still in jail with no bond. Her next court date is set for this Monday, June 4.
