Severe thunderstorms kickoff the week

(WMC-TV) - The severe weather alerts expired but the skies remain gray and people are still waking up to the sound of thunder.

Keep up-to-date with the latest warnings and watches by visiting the WMCTV.COM weather warnings section.

A complex low pressure system over Missouri and upper levels winds from the northwest is driving storms into the Action News 5 coverage area.

Monday will be mostly cloudy with scattered rain and thunderstorms and high temperatures in the upper 80s. Rainfall amounts will average a quarter of an inch to as much as an inch in some areas.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a slight chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms and overnight lows in the mid sixties to lower seventies.

The storm overnight brought with it large hail, close-to-the-ground lightning, and destructive winds of more than 70 miles per hour.
