(WMC-TV) - Jeremiah Minnis says Andreka Spates was driving the car that almost ran him down on his own street.
"I was walking down the street and I saw a car coming but she wasn't driving it was her sister," Minnis said. "I jumped out of the way. I jumped on the curb."
In the passenger seat of that vehicle, police say Andreka's sister, Andrienne Spates was heavily intoxicated. Adrienne Spates is the mother of the conjoined twins who were separated last year at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
Four small children ages 1 to 5 years old were also in the car. The vehicle is registered to Adrienne Spates who was charged in a hit and run crash that injured two women last month in the Cooper Young area.
Minnis called police after he says Andreka Spates tried to run him down.
"She came back down the street that's when they got her," said Minnis.
Andreka Spates was not charged specifically with trying to run down Minnis, but she is charged with not having a valid driver's license, not having auto insurance and violation of the child restraint law. She was arrested and taken to jail.
Jeremiah Minnis is the father of Adrienne Spates' two oldest children ages 4 and 5, but not the father of the twins, who are now in state custody after Spates was charged with DUI in April.
"I'm trying to get them back now," Minnis said.
Adrienne Spates is also charged with vandalism, as she is accused of breaking out a window at Minnis' house.
"It's stressing, dramatic," said Minnis. "I mean you know it hurts my heart but I'm trying to be strong for my kids."
Minnis says he is not longer seeing Adrienne Spates, because she started seeing the man who is the father of her twins.
"I don't want to see nothing bad happen to her you know people make mistakes, just trying to forgive and forget," added Minnis.
