Puppy rescued by Memphis officer looking for a home

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – A puppy is alive and well and ready for adoption, thanks to the heroics of a Memphis Police officer.

The adorable two month old puppy is at the Memphis Animal Shelter for now.  He is the reason Memphis police officer Jackie Wells is off duty right now resting at home. The puppy got trapped in a storm drain on McLean after heavy rains Monday night. When Officer Wells got to the scene she tried to grab the puppy but fell almost 10 feet into the ditch.

"Whoever would like to come and adopt this beautiful Labrador mix would be graciously welcomed," said James Rodgers with Memphis Animal Services.

Wells was treated at Methodist for head and leg injuries and is expected to recover. The puppy was also rescued.

The puppy was taken to an animal emergency clinic. After that, Animal Shelter workers picked the puppy up and have been taking care of it ever since.

"A puppy like this, we pick it up, we care for it. We vet it, we make sure it's cared for and then make available for adoption," Rodgers said.

A puppy that has had quite the adventures in its first two months of life.

The puppy will be available for adoption Saturday.
