(WMC-TV) - The contract of Memphis City Schools Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash will once again be on the table for discussion Monday.

According to the Commercial Appeal, Monday's meeting could determine if Cash stays through his contract, which ends in 2013 when Memphis and Shelby County Schools merge.

The meeting has been causing controversy ever since it was called in late May.  That was when several Mid-South clergy members urged the board to cancel the meetings, believing it was illegally set and makes Shelby County Superintendent John Aitken a shoe in for running the combined district.

Some board members agreed, saying there should not be a meeting if Aitken's contract is not discussed.

Last week, the board was scheduled to have a closed door meeting with their attorney to discuss Monday's meeting, but that was canceled.

Board elections are set for August 2, meaning that any changes to either superintendent's contract would have to be approved by next Monday.

Monday's meeting will start at 5 p.m. at the Teaching and Learning Academy on Union.
