(WMC-TV) – The Nashville Zoo welcomed a new addition this week. The six foot, 160 pound baby is sure to turn heads once she makes her debut.
The baby giraffe was born Sunday at 6 a.m. The calf and its mother, Margarita, are doing well. Zoo officials are monitoring the baby's development and will soon make a decision about when she can be debuted to the public.
"We've been watching Margarita [its mother] very closely in anticipation of this event," said Mammal Curator Connie Philipp. "This is her second calf, and she is showing us some great maternal skills. We look forward to showing the new calf to our guests soon."
The new calf does not have a name yet. Usually, the zookeepers pick the name of the new additions. They hope to have a name chosen by the time the calf is debuted.
With the addition of the new calf, the Giraffe Savannah will now have four inhabitants.
