Commercial Appeal loses publisher

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The E.W. Scripps Co. has announced that the publisher and the top sales executive of The Commercial Appeal are leaving the Memphis newspaper.

The Commercial Appeal reported Friday that President and Publisher Joe Pepe and Kurt Wurzbach, the newspaper's vice president of sales and marketing, were leaving. The change in leadership was announced by Tim Stautberg, senior vice president, newspapers for Cincinnati-based Scripps.

Stautberg said a new publisher would be named within the next few weeks. Pepe had been publisher since 2005.

Stautberg said the leadership change was made "with full confidence in the bright future of The Commercial Appeal."
